A Celebration of Life for John H. “Snuffy” Smith, 78, of Kilgore will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, at Highland Park Baptist Church in Kilgore with Rev. Brandon Cochran officiating.
John was born on February 14, 1939, in Warren, Ohio, to Dale and Erma Smith. He dutifully and faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Air Force. Snuffy worked in the oilfield for 40 years until his retirement.
Being a true patriotic American he was a member of the DAV and the VFW. He volunteered by driving the disabled veterans van and the VA. John enjoyed tinkering with cars, building garages and doing yardwork. He was a longtime Christian and member of Highland Park Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and his church and served the church in any way that he could. His family was the source of his strength and spending time with them was when he was happiest. His passing has left a great void and he will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he has touched.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sue Smith of Kilgore; son, Wayne R. Smith of Kilgore; step-children, Ronnie Wright of Lakeport, Donnie Wright of Winnsboro, James Wright of Winnsboro; grandchild, Ashley Dennis and her husband Jason of Hughes Springs; great-grandchildren, Sadie Sue Dennis, Eli Dennis; siblings, Dale Lynn of Ohio, Pam Jenkins of South Carolina and his furbaby Daisy Mae. Also left to carry on his legacy are numerous step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and many other loving family members.
