Group celebrates Independence Day with picnic at Old Shiloh Cemetery

Press Release

The Old Shiloh Cemetery Annual Picnic is scheduled for Tuesday, July 4th – its 163rd year.

Established in 1853, the cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Rusk County and East Texas, and is a perpetual care cemetery located on Hwy. 315, approximately seven miles northeast of Mt. Enterprise, Texas.

A cemetery business meeting is set for 10 a.m. in The Old Shiloh Baptist Church before the picnic at noon.

Families and guests are encouraged to bring their picnic lunches, spread their food on the picnic tables and enjoy renewing family ties with their “long-a-go friends.”

The cemetery committee has added a number of beautiful stone benches to accommodate visitors as they search out family plots in the sprawling cemetery that has been expanded twice in the last 20 years.

Families interested in reserving burial lots may meet with cemetery sexton Paul Jett.

The committee is considering creating a Columbarium for repository of cremation urns.
