Memorial Services for George Holman, 90, of Kilgore/Lake Cherokee will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, in the Wildwood Chapel of Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. Mr. Holman passed away after a long illness on Friday, June 15, 2018, in Dallas.
George was born April 21, 1928 in Pecos, Texas, to George Sr. and Elva Holman. He graduated from Allen Military Academy and held a Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Houston. He worked in the oil industry rising from roustabout to Senior Research Engineer with Amoco Corporation (previously Standard Oil of Indiana). He retired in 1986 in Tulsa with a number of patents to his name including floating cement and low-density spacer fluid – technologies that helped improve industry processes markedly.
He was married in 1953 to a local Kilgore girl, Ruth Killingsworth, and they had a child in 1968, Nancy Elizabeth Holman. He was a 65-year member of the Danville Masonic Lodge. George was a brilliant storyteller, an avid fisherman and a caring husband, father, brother and uncle. He celebrated his 90th birthday in April of this year with close family and friends.
Mr. Holman was preceded in death by his parents and sister (Mary Elizabeth).
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Holman of Lake Cherokee/Kilgore; daughter, Nancy Holman of London, England (Erica Pani); his brother, John David Holman (Pat) of College Station; four nieces, Sherron Roberts (Robin) of Orlando, Lisa Killingsworth-Cohen of Austin, Elizabeth Killingsworth (Alexandra Olsen) of Irving, and Andrea Russo-Holman (Vincenzo) of Milan, Italy; one nephew, David Holman of Los Angeles; and great nieces and great nephew, Anna Roberts (Nicholas Tu) of State College, Penn., Caroline Kurth (Austin) of Austin, and Evan Cohen of Austin. Also left to cherish his memory are numerous cousins, friends, and other loving family members.
