Ernest J. Lewis Jr.


Services for Ernest Lewis, 77, of Kilgore will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 6, at Rader Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Scotty Short and Brother Jason Hebert officiating.   Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery.  Mr. Lewis went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday, August 2, 2018 at his home.

Ernest was born March 22, 1941 in Columbus, Ga., to Ernest and Aline Lewis.  His family moved to Haughton, La., where Ernest was a 1959 graduate of Haughton High School.   He moved his family to East Texas in the late 1960s where he worked as a control board operator for Mid-Valley Pipeline Company. 

Ernest loved gospel music.  He passed this passion on to his children and they formed “The Lewis Family Gospel Group.” Throughout the years he was the praise and worship leader at numerous churches in East Texas.  Mr. Lewis most recently was the praise and worship leader at Circle C Cowboy Church.  Ernest loved the Lord and never met a stranger.   He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan; he loved gardening, his John Deere Tractor, bicycle riding and fly fishing.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, Barbara Minor Lewis of Kilgore; children, Darrell Lewis of Longview, Terri Jones of Henderson, David Lewis of Hallsville, Debra Gibson of Kilgore, Melvin Minor of Hallsville; his sister, Dianne Hebert of Haughton, La.; 13 grandchildren, Samantha Sego of Hallsville, Jonathan Sego of Denton, Chelsie Tastad of Sioux City, Iowa, Tyler Tastad of Sioux City, Cody Lewis of Chandler, Okla., Kimberly Chambers of Virginia Beach, Va., Justin Bridges of Goodlettsville, Tenn., Courtney Lewis of Houston, Aaron Lewis of Hallsville, Robert Gibson of Longview, K. T. Zavala of Kilgore, Holli Minor of Camp Pendleton, Austin Minor of Hallsville; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Jerry and Belinda Braunum of Kilgore.

The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Sunday afternoon between 4-6 p.m.
