The Overton Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Preceptor Nu Tau, held its annual Founder’s Day celebration on May 3 at Jack Ryan’s in Kilgore. This occasion marks the 86th anniversary of the founding of Beta Sigma Phi.
The luncheon began with members gathering in the private dining room and catching up with other members, their families, and their activities. President Grace Green welcomed everyone and read the Beta Sigma Phi Grace.
Following a delicious meal, complete with scrumptious buttermilk and pecan pies, made by President Green, Colleen Randel read the greeting from International. The message focused on the theme for next year, “In Touch with Tomorrow.” The forward-looking theme was suggested by a member from Montana. The members then recited the Founder’s Day Pledge in unison.
A highlight of the day was the announcement of the Woman of the Year by the past year’s honoree, President Green. She described the winner, Cynthia Clark, as a humble and kind sister, who is willing to do whatever is needed and opens her beautifully decorated home every Christmas for our holiday party. Mrs. Clark received a crystal dip server from the Chapter. Green said, “I hope Cynthia enjoys using it, as much as I enjoyed selecting it.”
Members made plans for the upcoming year. The meeting ended with the Closing Ritual. The celebration was enjoyed by Betty Clark, Cynthia Clark, Green, LeAnn McDaniel, Pam Merritt, Debbie Maxwell, Jody Philley, Randel, and Mary Alice Taylor.
