City: Splash park delay won't dampen July 4th

Even though recent weather events have delayed the planned opening of the new Splash Park, Kilgore officials still plan to make a SPLASH with a whole host of water activities and other entertainment for people of all ages from 6 to 9 p.m. at Kilgore City Park on July 4.

Kilgore City Manager Josh Selleck said that there will still be plenty of water fun for everyone, as there will be two water slides and free admission to the City Pool from 6 to 9 p.m. Also featured will be a free concert in the park’s amphitheatre by the popular local band Dagnabbit, sponsored by East Texas Chevy Dealers and Patterson Chevrolet of Kilgore. The concert will be followed by a spectacular fireworks display provided by Mike and Pam Adams of MPA Fireworks.

“Skateboarders will also be able to enjoy our enlarged and improved skate park located on the Kay Street side of the park,” said Selleck.

Selleck said that construction of the Splash Park has been slowed by weather and other circumstances, and formal opening of the Splash Park was planned to coincide with July 4th festivities at City Park but will now be scheduled immediately upon completion.

Kilgore City Park is located west of Highway 259 between Kay and North Streets.
