Chamber seeks nominations for local STARs

It’s been an exciting and successful year, Kilgore Chamber President Cindy Morris says, ready to showcase the organization’s progress – and its 2017 individual and business standouts – in the second annual Star Gala.

The event replaced the chamber’s annual banquet in Fall 2016, and this year’s gala is slated for 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, in Kilgore College’s Devall Student Center Ballroom.

Celebrating local accomplishments last year, “we added the S.T.A.R. Awards to honor and recognize outstanding individuals and businesses that make Kilgore the best place to live, work and play,” Morris noted, and the chamber is seeking leads for new honorees in multiple categories: “We are reaching out to our member investors, other businesses and residents to ask for nominations.”

Categories include Citizen of the Year, a long-standing recognition awarded by the chamber, as well as Small Business of the Year (25 employees or fewer), Large Business of the Year (26-plus employees) and Chamber Ambassador of the Year.

New in 2017, the Star Gala includes an additional award to spotlight the chamber’s Industry of the Year (covering manufacturing, distribution, oil-and-gas and other sectors).

Nominations must be submitted using the chamber’s form, available for download at KilgoreChamber.com/events or by request to 903-984-5022 or cmorris@kilgorechamber.com. The paperwork must be returned to the chamber by Sunday (Sept. 24).

“These are prestigious awards,” Morris emphasized, “and companies/individuals who have outstanding accomplishments, growth or community involvement should be submitted for consideration.”

The Oct. 16 event will also include recognition of the three Outstanding Women in Business accolades awarded in April to Amanda Nobles, Charlotte Mobbs and Jessica Holmes.

“In addition to the awards program, incoming Chairman of the Board – James Murphy, Republic Services – will take over the leadership helm for the fiscal year beginning October 1,” Morris noted in a press release Tuesday. “Reece Nichols, Edward Jones, who currently serves as the 2016-17 Chairman of the Board, will take time during the Gala to reflect on the Chamber’s accomplishments this past year.”

There are three sponsorship levels for the event in addition to corporate reserved tables and individual tickets. For more information about becoming a sponsor, contact the chamber at 903-984-5022 or email info@kilgorechamber.com – commitments must be received by Friday (Sept. 22).
