Car wash fundraiser helps teen's family after April wreck

There will be a community car wash May 20 benefiting Kilgore High School student Jay Cox and his family after the sophomore suffered severe injuries in a recent wreck.

The teen remains in intensive care at Children’s Hospital in Dallas following a single-vehicle incident on U.S. Hwy. 259 near Interstate 20 Saturday, April 29.

Supporters staged a bass fishing tournament May 6 at Lake Sam Rayburn, and Gabriel/Jordan Buick GMC will host the car wash benefit next week at 1500 U.S. Hwy. 259 N. All proceeds will be donated directly to Cox’s family to help defray medical expenses incurred since the wreck.

In addition to washing cars from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20, volunteers will be serving hamburgers and hot dogs (cooked by Kilgore Police Department personnel) for $5 per plate, including chips and a drink. Homemade cookies will be $1 each. The event will also include a $5 per ticket raffle for a 55-quart Taiga cooler, and organizers are putting together a silent auction. Gabriel/Jordan also has #Pray4Jay bumper stickers available for $5 each.
