Cancer benefit, music festival set Sunday at Kilgore park

A 27-year-old mother of three is in the fifth year of her cancer battle, and Krystina Tinney’s family and friends will gather around her Sunday in an 11-hour fundraiser at Kilgore City Park.

Tinney was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012. The disease has now progressed to stage four, and her family is inviting the community to both come pray and enjoy a day of music with the woman and her loved ones.

Running from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday at Kilgore City Park and co-hosted by the Kilgore Fire Department, the benefit for Tinney’s expenses will include a wide range of activities, according to her mother, Tina Jimenez.

The ‘Concert in the Park’ fundraiser features a variety of acts in hour-long blocks under the park’s amphitheater beginning with Billy Cody at 11 a.m. and followed by Mayson Garner & Taz, Bluez Boyz, Black Ice, Bobby Claire Band, Post Profit, Passion for Vengeance and Sweet Pain.

Meanwhile, “We’ve got all kinds of games and food and bounce houses,” Jimenez said. “We’ve got an auction going, we’ve got a raffle that’s going to be going throughout the day” in addition to 50/50 drawings.

“We’ve got three different companies that are going to be their selling plates of food. It’s a pretty good size benefit.”
