Services for Bob Hooks, 87, of Rockdale, formerly of New London, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with Reverend Ben Bagley officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, New London. Mr. Hooks died March 9, 2018, in Temple.
Bob was born on March 3, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Quinley and Veleta Hooks. He was a 1949 graduate of London high school and he received degrees from Kilgore College and the University of Texas at Austin.
Bob dutifully and faithfully served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He worked for Gulf Oil Company and in 1968 joined Hooks Machine Works, Inc. with his father and his brother, Donald. Bob was a long time member of New London Methodist and also was in the Rotary Club in Henderson and Kilgore. His family, especially his grandchildren, was the source of his strength and spending time with them was when he was happiest.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Keith Hooks and his wife Paula of Kilgore, Karen Gogan and her husband David of Overton; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Jessica Hooks of Longview (Madilyn, Noah, and Eli), Tiara and Chris Calcote of Jacksonville (Kellierae and Blane), Ryan and Brittany Hooks of College Station (Jackson, Weston and Sydney), Heather Smith of Tyler; sister, Billie Manck of Brownsboro, formerly of Henderson; brother, Donald Hooks of Henderson; children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of his late wife Bobbie Jean Hooks, James and Leesa Hodges, Annette and Frankie Stone, Amie Stone and Matthew King (Marillah and Edward), Ashley Hodges and Kyle Sparkman (John Kyle, Regan, Blythe, Cannon and Thatcher), Kendall Hodges and Andrew Hay (Amelie, Aaron and Isla), and Caitlin Hodges and James Gardner (Weston). Also, left to carry on his legacy are numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other loving family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Amanda Jane Hooks; his second wife, Bobbie Hodges Hooks, and his son Christopher Lee Hooks.
