Lt. Tony Stone is praying for nice, cool weather, no rain.
Last year’s Kilgore Night Out ended up hot and humid, but neighbors still enjoyed sharing the muggy evening together with local emergency responders.
Hopefully, Stone said Thursday, this year’s evening – Tuesday, Oct. 2 – will include the same sense of community, albeit with a friendlier forecast.
“I just know everybody is excited,” he said this week, with a dozen parties definitely on tap. “It’s shaping up nice. I’ve picked up three new people to host parties.”
Each of this year’s block party hosts has been supplied with a collection of National Night Out decorations and party favors, he added, ranging from ‘Hello, Neighbor’ nametags to hand fans – in case his request for cool weather doesn’t pan out.
The parties are spread throughout Kilgore. Most begin at 6 p.m. or 6:30 and last about two hours. Some provide food and drinks, some are potluck affairs as neighbors gather at a particular home or, in a few cases, a cul-de-sac or the middle of a closed street.
For more information about the parties, aimed at strengthening the bonds between residents and law enforcement, call Kilgore Police Department at 903-983-1559.
