A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Barbara Langham, 82, of Kilgore, will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, at First Methodist Church in Longview with Rev. Jay Jackson and Rev. Mary Collier officiating. Mrs. Langham completed her earthly journey on Friday, February 23, 2018 in Kilgore.
Barbara was born on January 16, 1936, in Houston to Allen and Louise Gilchrist. She married the love of her life, Rev. Walter N. Langham, in 1954 and they ministered in the United Methodist Church and made many happy and loving memories for the next 60 years.
Music was her passion and if it had strings, she could play it and she also taught many students privately. At 11 years old she was the youngest member of the Houston Youth Symphony in which she played the violin and the tympani. She was a member of the Kilgore Area Music Teachers Association, enjoyed painting, reading, cooking and animals. Her family and extended family was the source of her strength and spending time with them was when she happiest.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Neil Langham and Laura Langham, both of Kilgore; grandchild, Erik Toles of Dallas; brother, Allen Gilchrist and wife Peggy of Ft. Davis; niece and nephew, Cherri Northcutt and husband Dan of Katy, Steven Gilchrist of Houston; great-nieces, Dani and Natalie Northcutt of Katy; “adopted” children, Reimi and Nick Sloan. Also, left to carry on her legacy are numerous former church members, friends and other loving family members.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
