Back Porch gets third straight win, producer earns ETX Music accolade

For the third consecutive year, The Back Porch was named the ETX Music Awards’ Venue of the Year.

“We’re very proud of that,” owner Jackie Clayton said. “It means a lot to me. Born and raised in Kilgore, this is my passion, music. I really enjoy presenting music to people. It’s a venue that we’ve kept really family oriented, kid-friendly; always want it to be that way. I want people to be able to come here and enjoy it and have a good time and not worry.”

The Back Porch began presenting music eight years ago with small acoustic shows, and it has grown into a larger venue equipped for full bands, such as the 2017 Country Band, Male Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year Darrin Morris Band.

The Back Porch is also nominated for the Texas Country Venue of the Year at the Texas Country Music Awards in Carthage Sept. 28.

Chad Mauldin took home the award for Producer of the Year, which includes managing the budget and serving as the recording engineer.

Technology has allowed anyone to make a recording, he said, but his role is to collaborate with the artists and be part of the record making process with them.

The multi-instrumentalist started as the person creating music in the studio, and as producer now helps others create that music. Throughout the year, he said, he has produced six singles that have been on the Texas radio charts.
