AgriLife hosts healthy cooking school

Bring a friend and join the fun at the Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School, which will be presented by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service on Thursday, September 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Summit United Methodist Church in Marshall. (1901 East End Blvd N) “While there are many groups who conduct cooking schools, we believe the Dinner Tonight Healthy Cooking School has a unique niche,” said Dr. Susan Ballabina, Associate Director for Program Development for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

“During the cooking school, everyone will see demonstrations of quick and easy-to-make recipes from the Healthy Recipes for Healthy Living recipe booklet. The recipes include entrees, sides, and desserts. We are targeting busy people who still want to make time for meal preparation and feel good about what they are feeding themselves and their family. Our goals are to promote family mealtime, teach families healthy meal planning and food preparation techniques, and promote Texas Agriculture.

This event is brought to you by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and will feature local county Extension agents Louraiseal McDonald, Liz Buckner, Vickie Lacy, Angie Monk, and Patrice Dunagin. This year’s theme is “honey” and we will feature several recipes utilizing honey. We will also have Smith County Horticulture Agent, Greg Grant speak on plants that attract honey bees. He is well known in east Texas for his expert horticulture knowledge and his quick wit. Beth Gumm, of Marshall Beekeeper’s Association, will demonstrate how to make lotion and lip balm with honey.

All attendants will receive the Healthy Recipes for Healthy Living booklet, a gift bag full of kitchen goodies, and a chance to win door prizes. Everyone will also get to taste the demonstrated recipes and other snacks we will have available for the evening. The cost of the school is $20.00 with pre-registration or $25.00 at the door. To register, call your local Extension office at _903-657-0376.

Special thanks go to our sponsors of this event: Marshall Beekeepers Association, Flo Jasper, Retired FCS Agent and Gecko Pest Control.
