Addie Mumphrey Johnson


Funeral services for Addie Lou Johnson, 63, of Tyler, formerly of Kilgore, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 6, at Gee’s Memorial Church with Rev. Alfred Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Victory Funeral Services.

Addie was born to Chandler and Annie Mae Mumphrey in Kilgore on Wednesday, September 15, 1954, and she died Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at her residence in Tyler.

She was a member of Gee’s Memorial Church where she served until her demise.

Addie graduated in 1973 from Kilgore High School and later completed her Certified Nursing Assistant training. As a CNA she was employed for more than 20 years at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. She also owned and operated Chapel Hill Commercial Cleaning Company for seven years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one great-grandchild and five brothers, Willie James Mumphrey, Shannon Earl Mumphrey, Buster Mumphrey, Robert Earl Mumphrey and Barrett Mumphrey.

She remains in the hearts of her husband of 34 years, Robert D. Johnson Sr. of Tyler; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deena Berry and her husband Earnest and Kellie Johnson, all of Tyler; sons, DeWayne Mumphrey of Henderson, Raeford Mumphrey of Kilgore and Akimba Johnson of Elysian Fields; step-daughters, Angela Owens and Kim Lee, both of Tyler, and Alexis Harvey of Houston; step-son, Robert Johnson Jr. of Tyler; sisters, Shirley Mumphrey of Kansas City, Mo., Sandra Harris and her husband Melvin of Kilgore, Barbara Diane Mumphrey of Tyler, Marion Estell Mumphrey of Kilgore, Teresa Williams of Kilgore, Cresida Mumphrey of Jarrell, Glenda Lott and Linda Jackson, both of Dallas; brothers, Garrett O’Neal Mumphrey of Kansas City, Mo., Curtis Wayne Mumphrey of Overton, Johnifer Ray Mumphrey and Bobby Don Mumphrey, both Kilgore, John Allen Mumphrey of Overton and Charles Jackson of Kilgore; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
