Acoustic artist kicks it up a notch for Fridays After 5

The Kilgore Main Street Program’s upcoming Fridays After 5 concert is an exciting opportunity for the young performer, not just because it’s Karisia Hernandez’s first time playing under the derricks of the World’s Richest Acre.

“I usually play acoustic,” she said Monday. “Here, I’m playing full-band which is really exciting because I usually don’t get that chance to perform. I’m really excited about that and to experience Fridays After 5 because I’ve never done it before.”

The show begins at 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, on the acre, another free concert hosted by Main Street:

“Known for her unique voice and ability to cover many music genres, this award-winning artist will set the scene for what will be a festive weekend in downtown Kilgore.”

A senior at Tatum High School, after her first year of performing, Hernandez won Junior Artist of the Year and Latin Artist of the Year in the 2018 ETX Music Awards.

According to her bio at ‘Karisia Hernandez Music’ on Facebook, Hernandez is the youngest of four children and has been singing as long as she can remember, including numerous family events before she started performing professionally in October 2017. Self-taught on piano and guitar, she’s twice competed and twice won her age category at Kilgore’s Got Talent.

Hernandez’s debut single, “People Bore Me,” premiered in November.

According to Hernandez, her cover music has a wide appeal, and she’s looking forward to a diverse crowd on the Acre, mixing in her own songs to sweeten the mix.

“I play all sorts of genres,” she said, “but my music that’s my own, I characterize it as indie pop/rock.”

Fridays After 5 is a “bring your own chair” event. The free, family-friendly outdoor concert will also include local vendors May 4 – to reserve a spot, call Kilgore Community Relations Manager Sonya Waters at 903-984-5081.
