Dallas Hillcrest gave all it had, but denying Kilgore High School a trip back to the regional finals just wasn’t happening on Friday. Kilgore, one of the state’s elite programs for the last decade, did face a feisty Hillcrest team at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in Tyler on Friday morning, but held them off, taking a 2-1 victory in the University Interscholastic League’s Class 4A Region II semifinals. That win means when Kilgore takes the turf at Rose Stadium again today, it’s for a trip back to the UIL state tournament. more
Neither Kilgore High School track and field team won their district championship this year – the Spring Hill boys won their division, and Gilmer’s girls won theirs – but the Bulldogs had enough outstanding performances in last week’s District 16-4A meet at Spring Hill that several of them are moving on to the area meet. Area is also at Spring Hill, and it’s Wednesday. Field events will begin at 10 a.m., and running events at 1:30. The top four from area will move on to regionals at Texas A&M-Commerce on April 26-27. more
Representatives from more than 30 school districts gathered at the Region 7 Education Service Center on Longview Street in Kilgore Friday to meet with applicants seeking careers in education. The job fair gives career-seekers a chance to meet face-to-face with staff from various school districts in the East Texas area to find out if a particular district might be a good fit. more

It could have been five bullets, maybe 10, as two groups exchanged fire on Miles Street March 31. As the investigation proceeds, Kilgore officers say the shootout began with a robbery, escalated to a short gun battle and ended with an 18-year-old woman shot in the neck. more
