Kilgore High School’s track and field athletes that qualified for the area meet are going to have to cool their jets for an extra day. The area meet was added by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) a couple of years ago; it’s an extra round, basically, between the district meets at the Texas high school level and the regional meets. It’s one more hurdle, no pun intended, for potential state-qualifiers to leap in order to get to the state meet in Austin next month. more

In their second time facing each other on the dais of the Kilgore Candidates Forum, incumbent Ronnie Spradlin and challenger Victor Boyd exchanged no blows in their mutual pursuit of the mayor’s seat. Rather, both men underscored their shared desire to continue serving the city, and to be the one to see its current momentum through in the next two years. more
Students have been directed back inside Kilgore Middle School following a reported fire in the building Tuesday afternoon. Kilgore Fire Chief Johnny Bellows confirmed the “All OK” after a fan motor kicked off a short evacuation. Firefighters and police were dispatched to the campus about 11:40, per radio traffic, as students were evacuated and corralled outside the school. more
Sunny skies on Saturday will give thousands of Kilgoreites young and old a clear view as two helicopter-loads of Easter eggs sprinkle down on Driller Park. With multiple local churches in Kilgore and Liberty partnering for a ‘Resurrection Celebration Festival & Easter Egg Hunt’ April 20, there’s a good chance they’ll better last year’s egg haul, when more than 40,000 of the plastic containers and their hidden treasurers were collected by kiddoes. more
