For an hour after school, Kilgore kids are getting fit, learning discipline and being steered onto the right path in life. About 20 KISD students meet in a converted warehouse space on Harris Street Monday through Friday from 4 to 5 p.m. to practice squats, push-ups and other exercises at the Ignition Station. Hannah Beets, physical education teacher at Chandler Elementary, got the idea to combine the workouts from her CrossFit class with her passion to work with kids and help them excel mentally and physically. more

I’ve had my share of doctor’s office visits. Back in 2005, I had an over-night heart procedure at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. My heart has been ticking just fine ever since, and I continue to maintain an active cardio work-out routine. Now, fourteen years later, I am able to live and do as though I have never had a heart issue before. For me, this raises a theological question: did my cardiac surgeon heal me of this cardiac condition? more

DEAR DR. ROACH: I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea in the early 1990s and have been using a CPAP machine ever since. I have just recently begun seeing advertisements on television for a product that cleans the inside of your CPAP machine. It is common knowledge that we must clean the facial mask, hoses and other external parts of the machine on a regular basis, as well as changing the filters, but I have no recollection of ever having been informed by any of my sleep specialist doctors that the inside of the CPAP machine requires regular cleaning. more

Liberty City-area residents will get a chance to vote on a sales tax rate increase this fall. A unanimous vote to put the measure on the ballot was recorded at a meeting of the Gregg County Emergency Services District No. 2 board on Tuesday. Held in the auditorium of Sabine High School, the meeting allowed members of the public to comment on the proposed measure, which would add 1.5 cents to the sales tax rate within ESD No. 2. more
Kilgore’s Planning and Zoning Board approved Kilgore Tire Center’s request for a zoning change, giving the green light to a business expansion at 2801 US Hwy. 259. At a Wednesday morning meeting, board members unanimously voted to send a recommendation to the city council to approve a change to Kilgore’s Comprehensive Plan, allowing the construction project to begin. Board Chairman Randy Renshaw said it was necessary for the board to approve a zoning change and construction plan for the property before they could approve the recommendation. more
