The 12-and-under all-stars, representing the Kilgore Boys Baseball Association, will compete in their age division’s Dixie Youth Baseball Majors state tournament this weekend in Athens. The boys play their tournament opener today at 3 p.m. against Van.
It’s a double-elimination tournament, which means it takes two losses to be ousted.
Kilgore-Van is actually the final game of the first round. The Kilgore-Van loser plays again Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. against the Athens-Huntington loser. The Kilgore-Van winner will face the Athens-Huntington winner on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Other communities with teams in the tournament are Waskom, Pineland, Marshall, and Center. Barring any rain-outs, the tournament’s finals are scheduled for Monday night at 6:30.
There is admission for this tournament. Day passes are $10 each for adults, $4 each for children (under 12).
Kilgore’s 12-U all-stars this year are De’Marion Brown, Zevin Dent, Eduardo Chavez Espinosa, Cutter Gaudet, Joseph Mack Hendrickson, Blake Jarrett Kelley, Jason Chance Kirk, Connor Pendergast, Zachery Paul Rowland, Cole Steele, Wesley Hayden Trebing and Bransin Lee Waller. They’re coached by Robert Waller, Jason Brewer and Keon Pendergast.
One other KBBA all-star team made it through to the state round, but won’t play for another week, the 14-U all-stars. The tournament for that age group is in Center.
The 14-U’s are De’Quincy Brown, Cason Cox, Raymond Espinoza, Jace Scott Eubanks, Cooper Harrison, Kain Hogue, Trent Lopez, Gage Nichols, Jared Adam Rich, Brendon Shannnon, Brayden West, and Colby Ryan Wilkerson. Their coaches are Jonathan Cox, Thomas Wilkerson and Jason Harrison.
