Four times in the last seven years, the Kilgore High School tennis program has sent a boys doubles team to the University Interscholastic League’s state tournament, played at Texas A&M University in College Station. They haven’t brought back gold just yet, but Jack Tyra and Kalen Ray have the state experience under their belt, now, and will aim to come back as seniors next spring. more
Kilgore College’s softball season is over, but the Rangers didn’t go down without a fight. After losing a convincing opener in the Region XIV Tournament in Lufkin to Blinn, KC bounced back with a 4-3 win over Galveston College – the Rangers’ first-ever postseason win – but fell in a close elimination game on Thursday, 1-0, to San Jacinto. Coach Leslie Messina’s team finished the 2019 season with a 23-26 record. more

TENNIS Jack Tyra, Kalen Ray at state tourneament Thursday Jack Tyra and Kalen Ray from Kilgore High School will compete tomorrow morning in the University Interscholastic League’s Class 4A state tennis tournament. The UIL’s state tennis tournament for all six classifications is at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center and Omar Smith Intramural Tennis Center on the campus of Texas A&M University at College Station. Kilgore’s boys doubles team will face Canyon’s Asher Melton and Bryce Ware in the state quarterfinals on Thursday morning at 10:30. The season is over for the losers. The winners advance to take on either Fredricksburg or Center tomorrow afternoon at 3:30. more
Kilgore High School’s Cameron Jackson medaled in what will go down as one of the most storied sessions of 100 meter dash contests in the history of the University Interscholastic League’s State Track & Field Championships. The UIL holds its king-of-all-track-meets each year at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, and Jackson earned a third-place finish in the Class 4A boys 100 meter dash on Saturday evening. Jackson finished in 10.72 seconds, good for the bronze medal behind Stafford’s Ryan Martin (10.34 seconds) and Taylor’s Dushon Orr (10.70). more
With a flair for the dramatic, Kilgore is still unbeaten in the University Interscholastic League’s Class 4A playoffs. The Bulldogs beat Wills Point, 8-7, on a walk-off single by Gus Witt to score A.J. Smith on Saturday afternoon, giving Kilgore the two-game sweep. KHS (26-5) had beaten Wills Point, 8-1, late Friday afternoon. more
The first round of the Region XIV Conference tournament was delayed twice by rain and storms. Kilgore College’s first-round opponent, though, clapped almost as loud as the lightning and thunder. more
A Kilgore man who’s no stranger to CrossFit competition has won the state’s richest prize, in his division. Jody Clements, a Kilgore resident and former Kilgore Independent School District superintendent, was victorious recently in the Texas Fittest Experience, held each year in Austin, this time at the Travis County Expo Center. more
