After what seemed to be an endless series of lightning delays, Kilgore led Midlothian Hertiage 2-0 with about 18 minutes left to play in the University Interscholastic League’s Class 4A Region II championship – 18 minutes and 34 seconds from a fourth trip to the state tournament since 2011. But 18 mostly agonizing minutes later, shockingly – in a bad way – it was over. more
There are a handful of games left in the regular season, but Kilgore High School baseball has placed themselves in a great position, squarely atop the District 16-4A standings – a place they’re now accustomed to assuming the last three years. more
Kilgore softball broke a 10-year playoff drought last year, and apparently, the girls have decided to simply not allow another, not even for a season. more
Kilgore lost Tuesday’s game at District 16-4A-leading Bullard, 7-4, even though KHS had its chances – they had the bases loaded in both the top of the fifth and top of the seventh before Bullard escaped. As the regular season winds down coach Cheyenne Kirkpatrick’s Kilgore team all but has the fourth spot in district wrapped up, but would love to move up to the third. more

HOUSTON – Steve Torrence, the reigning Mello Yello Champion and the Top Fuel favorite in this week’s 32nd Mopar Express Lane SpringNationals at Houston Raceway Park, has become an inspiration to a new generation of professional drag racers, not so much because of what he has done but because of how he has done it. In an era in which conventional wisdom suggested that no one could succeed at the sport’s top levels without being part of a multi-car team capable of producing proprietary components including engine, chassis and cylinder heads, the Kilgore native has dominated with one primary race car outfitted with “off the shelf” parts. more

That win means when Kilgore takes the turf at Rose Stadium again today, it’s for a trip back to the UIL state tournament. more
Neither Kilgore High School track and field team won their district championship this year – the Spring Hill boys won their division, and Gilmer’s girls won theirs – but the Bulldogs had enough outstanding performances in last week’s District 16-4A meet at Spring Hill that several of them are moving on to the area meet. Area is also at Spring Hill, and it’s Wednesday. Field events will begin at 10 a.m., and running events at 1:30. The top four from area will move on to regionals at Texas A&M-Commerce on April 26-27. more
