Alabama had an awful night in the College Football Playoff on Monday, and while Kilgore College didn’t get overwhelmed, the Rangers’ night wasn’t much better. KC lost for the first time since November, falling 72-70 here at Masters Gymnasium to Lamar-Port Arthur, the Rangers’ first Region XIV Conference loss of the season. KC drops to 3-1 in the conference, and they’re 12-3 on the season to date. They had won nine straight games prior to that defeat. more

SOCCER Kilgore started, on road in tournaments Both Kilgore High School soccer teams have started their regular season – the Bulldogs are playing in a tournament in Jacksonville, and are 1-0; the Lady Bulldogs are in a tournament at Midlothian. Coach Tom Wait’s Bulldogs picked up their first win of the year in the season opener, knocking off Whitehouse, 1-0. Wanya McIntyre, who missed all of last season with an injury, was back in form, getting a goal off a deflection in the first half. The Bulldogs (1-0) more
Longtime Kilgore College football assistant coach Willie Gooden, currently the program's interim coach, will be announced as the new head coach by the institution on Thursday, the Kilgore News Herald has learned. more
It’s now eight straight wins for the Kilgore College Rangers, who closed 2018 on the right note on Saturday. The Rangers jumped back into action after a near month-long break with a 92-45 thumping of Houston Community College, a non-conference opponent. KC led 48-22 at halftime and never trailed. more

Eckert after a 12-year tenure. more
