Red, orange, or purple with yellow polka dots: Kilgore’s Lady Bulldogs don’t really care about the attire, it’s all about the mission. Coach Cheyenne Kirkpatrick’s Lady ‘Dogs held off Center, 5-1, on Friday afternoon at Stream-Flo Field here in Kilgore, running their record to 12-4 this season (ironically, the same record as the KHS baseball team). They’ve also won three of their last four games. Kirkpatrick’s team has seemingly played its final non-district game of the regular season, and they’ll enter the District 16-4A schedule now. Kilgore was to host Spring Hill in the 16-4A debut for both teams on Tuesday night, after the deadline for this print edition of the News Herald. more

Storms damaged Kilgore early Thursday morning, and on the lighter side, put a small dent in the Kilgore High School softball season, as well. The Lady Bulldogs had been scheduled to visit Mabank for a game Thursday afternoon, but Mabank called off the game, KHS coach Cheyenne Kirkpatrick said. It was a non-district game, one of the final ones before the District 16-4A schedule begins Tuesday. Kilgore (11-4) was to host Center on Friday, and will be home Tuesday versus Spring Hill. That’s also SAFFE Day recognition night. more
