It was thought at one point that Eddie Jones’s football career would be largely as a player. But maybe, just maybe, it’s as a coach instead. The former Kilgore High School and University of Texas standout has been named the defensive line coach for Tarleton State University, the TSU football program announced Thursday. Jones comes to the Texans after serving on the staff at Blinn Junior College the last four years, including as co-defensive coordinator. more
The 2019 baseball season started a bit hectic for the Kilgore High School Diamond ‘Dogs, the opener and first tournament of the year thrown up in the air thanks to quite a bit of inclement weather. But the opener got played – a 9-3 Kilgore win, as it turned out, here at Driller Park – and at press time, the Bulldogs were taking part in a tournament at Whitehouse. more

Darrell “Red” Ganus is one of five people named as most distinguished athletic trainer in District VI of the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association, in Texas and Arkansas (SWATA). more

BASEBALL Kilgore, L-E will attempt to play here tonight In an effort to get the season opener played, in spite of all the rain on Tuesday, the Kilgore High School Bulldogs baseball team hopes to host Liberty-Eylau tonight at 6:30 p.m., a rare Wednesday night game at Driller Park. more
Combined score of Friday’s District 16-4A boys and girls Kilgore-Gladewater games: 22-0. Both Kilgore teams ran their record to 2-0 in district play, with the Lady Bulldogs taking a 10-0 win, and the Bulldogs following with a 12-0 decision. Both teams were to host Waskom on Tuesday night, but that was postponed to tonight, starting with girls at 5. Both teams will play at Tatum on Friday night – that’ll be a 5 p.m. girls varsity start, and boys to follow, likely around 7. more
It’s not really a stretch to say that Lee Livesay has been one of the top fishermen on the Bassmaster Tour through the tour’s first three events. And Livesay, in his first year, is making a name for himself quickly. The former Kilgore High School football standout finished 15th in the 2019 Toyota Bassmaster Elite at Lake Lanier (in Gwinnett, Ga.), over the weekend, catching 44 pounds, 2 ounces of fish and upping his standing on the year overall. more
Their stay in the playoffs wasn’t long, Kilgore’s Lady Bulldogs did well enough to perhaps establish a good foundation for future postseason trips. And for boys programs at both Kilgore and Sabine, the playoffs are just beginning. more
