Job Shadow Day is an annual opportunity for Kilgore students to explore career options, educational opportunities and to gain ideas about possible career choices. more
Kilgore Middle School principal April Cox gave Superintendent Dr. Andy Baker and KISD board trustees an update on progress KMS has made since implementing an action plan last summer at Monday’s board meeting. In summer 2018, KISD campus administrators brainstormed plans and ideas for improving student performance after that year’s STAAR scores showed many in the district were performing below state averages. Monday’s presentation is the first in a series of “Campus Spotlights” to be featured at upcoming board meetings so parents and district staff can stay abreast of district developments. more

Kilgore Code Enforcement officials’ ultimate goal is to eliminate the hazards and violations that drew them in the first place. Ideally, C B.J. Owen says, that can be accomplished before the “enforcement” ever becomes necessary. One such case moved toward the path of least resistance Tuesday night as Owen, Kilgore’s special services director, and a cooperative property owner discussed ways to bring a local building into compliance. more
The Kilgore College Department of Music and Dance will host the Baroque and Classical Piano Festival on Saturday, March 30, in the Anne Dean Turk Fine Arts Center. Elementary, middle and high school-age students are welcome to participate. Any original composition by a Baroque or classical composer is acceptable for the festival. more
In a major blow to the state’s government transparency laws, Texas’ highest criminal court has struck down a significant provision of the Texas Open Meetings Act, calling it “unconstitutionally vague.” That law, which imposes basic requirements providing for public access to and information about governmental meetings, makes it a crime for public officials to “knowingly [conspire] to circumvent this chapter by meeting in numbers less than a quorum for the purpose of secret deliberations.” That provision aims to keep public officials from convening smaller meetings — without an official quorum present — to discuss public business outside the view of the taxpayers and the media. more
After a successful launch of private piano lessons at the Kilgore College Music Academy in January, the college is expanding its piano lesson offerings. KC Music Academy will offer group piano classes for children ages 7-10 beginning Wednesday, March 20. more
