Up, down, up, plateau – as oilfield revenues climb and dive, so does the City of Kilgore’s sales tax rollercoaster. Fortunately, for the past two years, it’s been in a fairly steady ascent following the previous two years’ plunging numbers. At the moment, things are on a pretty even keel. more
Kilgore ISD’s state-assigned accountability rating is now available to view online, along with the ratings of every Texas school district. An online tool provided by the Texas Tribune called the Texas Public Schools Explorer allows users to search for any public school district in the state and instantly see its letter-grade ranking. In early April, the tool was updated to display ratings based on data from the 2017-18 school year. Letter-grade rankings were rolled out last year but the Tribune’s tool makes them more easily accessible for parents, guardians, teachers or anyone else interested in the state’s rating of a district. more

Kilgore News Herald netted another 2nd place Sweepstakes win from North and East Texas Press Association’s 2019 Better Newspaper Contest. Staffers left the Tyler convention with first place plaques for Column Writing and Feature Photography in addition to other awards. more
East Texas Christian School is holding a hotdog fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Atwoods to help the 10 members of its senior class raise funds for their senior trip to Alabama. “Our kids have been working different fundraisers and volunteering at different events since their junior year to raise money for their trip, but some students are still short,” according to Wendy Gill. more
The Kilgore Spring Film Festival returns on Wednesday, April 17, to present six films through Wednesday, May 7. The twenty-first year of the festival will bring several genres to the silver screens at 4 Star Cinema on Hwy. 259, including romance, documentary and drama. more
Kilgore Police Department reported the following arrests April 5-12. FRIDAY, APRIL 5 Johnathan Luther Lincoln, 30, of Longview, was arrested on a charge of violation of a bond / protective order. Jamal Lee Pegues, 24, of Henderson, was arrested on a charge of possession of between 1 and 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. more
