East Texas Regional Airport is slated to continue with improvements after Gregg County Commissioners voted to approve the facility’s updated Master Plan, which includes an updated Capital Improvement Plan. At a Jan. 30, meeting commissioners gave the go-ahead to the plan, which ETRA Director Roy Miller said must be updated on a regular basis to comply with Federal Aviation Administration recommendations. more

Gregg County Historical Commission is starting its 2019-2020 term with an induction of members and plans for projects in Kilgore. At a Jan. 30 Gregg County Commissioners Meeting, 20 members were appointed to the GCHC, with Johnny King as the new chairman. Officers are elected by group members. Several Kilgore members were re-appointed and another Kilgoreite, Laura McKeathan, was appointed for the first time. more

Bucky VanDoren is living his dream of appearing on the silver screen and didn’t have to go to Hollywood to do it. VanDoren, son of Alan and Debbie VanDoren, owners of Downtown D’Lites, found his footing in Georgia’s burgeoning TV and film industry. A theatrical education at Kilgore College was a springboard for the young actor, who made the move in order to seek real-world experience. more
A sales tax increase proposed by Sabine Volunteer Fire Department to generate funds for Emergency Services District No. 2 received enough signatures to land a spot on the ballot in May and, on Tuesday, ESD No. 2’s board voted to hold a public hearing on the issue. “We did have our meeting and the ESD board did vote to approve to move forward with a public hearing with the approved amount of signatures from the registrar’s office,” said Richard Sisk, fire chief of Sabine VFD. “They voted to set the public hearing date for March 19 at 6 p.m. at the Sabine High School auditorium.” more
