A wanted felon was taken into custody Thursday afternoon – after reportedly bursting through a screen door as he tried to escape capture. Authorities were seeking Lyle Djoe Lee, 37, on multiple felony warrants out of Gregg and Smith Counties, ultimately tracking him to a residence in south Kilgore. more

Both take place Saturday, May 25, through Monday, May 27. The Texas Comptroller’s office estimates shoppers will save about $12.6 million in state and local sales taxes during the Memorial Day weekend sales tax holidays. more
Sabine Middle School students are celebrating an academic victory after a group of sixth through eighth-graders earned trophies and high rankings at a state mathematics competition in San Antonio at the end of April. Texas Math and Science Coaches Association hosted the state meet the weekend of April 27-28. Students displayed their skills in a variety of mathematics-based competitions. more
Almost, but not quite: Kilgore City Pool won’t be open in time for Memorial Day – final repairs continue – so Splash Day has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 1. The Lazy S Splash Ranch is open for business, however, Kilgore City Manager Josh Selleck said, while workers put the finishing touches on the pool, where work has been oft-delayed by rain. more
A 56-year-old Kilgore man died on Interstate 20 early Friday morning, reportedly struck by a passing vehicle while he was pushing his own. According to a Department of Public Safety release, James Michael Evans was traveling westbound on I-20 in a 2003 Ford Ranger when the vehicle experienced mechanical problems. He and a passenger exited the truck and began pushing it shortly before 2 a.m. more
