Foundation creates ‘Derrick Award’ to honor supporters
As they celebrate the 25th year of the Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation, board members plan to honor an influential contributor Feb. 2 with the first Derrick Award.
"It's something we just brought into existence," president Marian Richardson explained Monday. "We just wanted to recognize some of the people who have stayed with KHPF, been with it all the time, been active with it all the time."
The new award is one of several items on the agenda for the group's annual meeting at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church.
Members of the Kilgore High School orchestra will provide background music during the social portion of the evening, followed by a brief business meeting. In addition to the presentation of the year-end report, several current board members will rotate out of the organization's leadership and new ones will be inducted.
Also, Richardson said, the meeting will include a brief overview of projects being developed in 2012.
"We are making some plans for some new things, and we want to announce them," she said. "It will probably take the whole year for them to come about, but we hope that they will."
The meeting is open to KHPF members and invited guests.
