Cardinals run wild, but fall at Malakoff in opener

By JASON HEFFNER
MALAKOFF-In the first ever meeting between the two schools, Malakoff’s home-standing Tigers knocked off the Sabine Cardinals, 51-18 Friday night, thanks to several huge defensive plays and a great passing night from junior quarterback, Jacob Teague. Teague was 7-8 passing and threw for 283 yards and two scores in the Tigers’ victory, including an 87 yard bomb to teammate Cameron Fletcher, late in the third quarter. Malakoff also dropped Sabine for two safeties in the second quarter, coming just 21 seconds apart from one another. Sabine’s Bryan Chumley was a definite bright spot for the Cardinals in the loss. Chumley rushed for 219 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries.
