Gregg budget drops by $12 million

With total revenues of $47.391 million projected for fiscal year 2010/2011, Gregg County is on a short budget leash – and living within its means. Revenues for the county are expected to subside to below those from the 2006/2007 fiscal year, dipping below the $50 million mark for the first time in several years, said County Judge Bill Stoudt.

The district attorney's explanation is now posted online as part of the story about the resignation. Basically, his crews worked in violation of county policy and state law on baseball fields in Kilgore and at Maude Laird Middle School (outside of Gregg County). He also had a county-owned ice machine at his business. -- editor
