Hey ya'll lay off my mom she

Hey ya'll lay off my mom she wrote this and I agree and Don't agree, I mean Down here in Houston, they have a seperate reading class for the people who don't understand english. I mean that is what ya'll should be doing up there. Ya'll knew she was coming there and she didn't know how to speak spanish she didn't apply for a billingual position and she didn't get the job just because she wasn't billingual. Isn't that messed up? -from the writers gt daughter

Its a sad state of affairs.

Its a sad state of affairs. When we don't take care of our own first. When we hire a person based on the fact they are bi lingual to teach our children to read English. Isn't this America where every subject except foreign languages are supposed to be taught exclusively in English? Was this person hired to fulfill a politically created quota? Are these created to get votes. Which has nothing to do with the quality of education our children receive. We need to address this issue and address it soon. Why don't the politicians make some laws that require people from other countries to learn to speak English if they want to become citizens. Stop teaching school in any language but our own. Lets keep the politicians out of our lives so that our actions are based on what is right and not on getting votes.

I worked with Angie in Spring

I worked with Angie in Spring Branch. She was awesome. She was my mentor in my first year. If she hadn't been there I don't know if I would have made it. She went through a lot in 2008 but she came through it and she helps others in similar situations daily. I wish her luck. I miss you Angie

If Angie knew I was writing

If Angie knew I was writing this she would be really embarassed. Someone asked who is she now and I would like to answer that. Angie is someone that stayed after school with that child that noone else wanted to work with. She is the one that walked students home to the halfway house across the street from her school when noone else wanted to. Angie is the one that started a dance team for girls and wrote the grant to get it started. It really helped the girls self-esteem as they were from low socio-economic area. Angie was the victim of a very brutal crime two years ago but she came through it as hard as it was for her. I know one of her heroes is Sam Houston because of his bravery in the face of battle. Well, Angie, you showed me bravery in the last two years. She loves her daughters more than her own life and would lay her life out for them. She loves children and would take every last one of the neglected ones home with her if she could. She faces her problems and fears and works through them with grace and dignity. I know she feels really sad that she wasn't there with her father at the end and she wanted to live there to make up for it with her mother. That is who she is today. You would be lucky to know her because she is a person who would do anything for you. I know I'm lucky every day that she is in my life. Sincerely, Susan Anderson Houston, Texas

It is a sad day in America

It is a sad day in America when things like this happen. What happened to taking care of our own? Is this another polical thing where we have to hire so many people that speak a foreign language to meet some quota? Or are these rules made to get votes? Why does a teacher need to be bi lingual to teach children to read. I thought the language we taught them to read was English? This is American the only reason to have bi lingual teachers is if we are going to be teaching our children in a foreign language and that is not supposed to be. Why don't we just make it a requirement to live in this country and be a citizen you have to learn to speak English?

PATHETIC! Grow up! Don't

PATHETIC! Grow up! Don't blame the world for your own problems. It's obvious this person has had problems in other places? Why is she not still with the district she taught at for 10 years? Why has no other district hired her? Good for KISD for not taking the teaching "rejects" from other districts. These teachers work too hard for very little pay to have others come in who want to cry and whine!

What a crock. The only way

What a crock. The only way you can get hired in Kilgore school district is to know someone. Most of the teachers in Kilgore act like they are still in high school themselves. This school district and town needs an overhaul.

grrrr u

My past evaluations are

My past evaluations are excellent. I left my last district because I moved to different city. My last bosses phone number 281-221-0722. Thanks for your opinion. Sounds like you might be someone I know.

Well checking up on the Texas

Well checking up on the Texas administrative code under the section educators code of Ethics you can make a compliant to the SBEC. Its states this in its overview. The Texas educator, in exemplifying ethical relations with colleagues, shall extend just and equitable treatment to all members of the profession. These are the provisions in which there are negligent: 1. Standard 2.2. The educator shall not harm others by knowingly making false statements about a colleague or the school system. (they made a false statement with the bilingual aspect) 2. Standard 2.3. The educator shall adhere to written local school board policies and state and federal laws regarding the hiring, evaluation, and dismissal of personnel. 3. Standard 2.5. The educator shall not discriminate against or coerce a colleague on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, disability, or family status (they are reverse discriminating you based that you can speak Spanish fluently) 4. Standard 1.6. The educator shall not falsify records, or direct or coerce others to do so. (they wanted to hire someone who speaks Spanish fluently this is not in the job description) In my opinion the School board needs to answer these allegations quickly. has a tax payer and voter I do not want any perceived discrimination or bias determining who they hire for our children education. We want the best qualified educators we can hire and not if they can speak Spanish fluently.

Thanks, I am already looking

Thanks, I am already looking into this. Looks like some lawyers take these cases for no pay. The EEOC will look into it too. My references were not even checked nor any of my background. My record stands for itself as far as performance. I have already been offered another job but this will not stand and I won't stand for it.

If you think about it what if

If you think about it what if your children have problems with speech or special education needs it's as though your wanting them to correct their "problem" as well.In other words why hire a teacher specialized in that area. Just hire a random joe in that case. The direction that KISD goes towards is what they percieve as the best option in my opinion. KISD has done exceptional in their hiring process. If you look at other districts we have seen a trend of educators either being fired or having to resign for "reasons", KISD I think is going in the right direction. If they didn't hire that individual it might have been for other reasons that just that. Obviously to be this "tactful" and write this letter to someone who graciosly even gave her a interview...come on now....lets grow up....you should be writing a thank you note for the chance to have interviewed with them.

Oh please don't be tactful.

Oh please don't be tactful. Come on and tell me the real reason. But be oh so very careful. I have nothing to hide. My success far outweighs any failures. You did not even check my refereces. My bosses were standing by. You don't have the nerve to reply.

You have got to be kidding

You have got to be kidding me. I too had an experience with KISD that was different but yet reaked of discrimination. It's funny how they get by with such things. I also moved away. The reason they do get by with such things is that good ol' boy mentality. It wouldn't be right to rock the boat so to say. Everyone knows everyone in small towns so it would be hard to stand up for what is right. Good luck Angie

So let me make sure I'm

So let me make sure I'm understanding this: This "currently unemployed" teacher is trying to get a job in Kilgore, but lives in Houston? Right? HOUSTON? Do you know how many districts are in and around HOUSTON? Why is this person NOT already hired? She's been a teacher somewhere for 10 years? Why is she not still THERE? So, she doesn't get hired here...in "Good Ol' Boy" Kilgore and now it's a "Small town mentality" Kilgore ISD's fault? Are you kidding me? Do you people take ALL of us for fools? GROW UP! Fix YOUR problems and don't blame a school district, which, by the way, is headed in some really positive directions! I've lived in Kilgore my whole life and am so proud of where our current administration is taking our school. They are obviously thinking in the "best interest for the students" for NOT hiring someone who is unstable enough to have to go to the public and cry out for help by listing everything that THEY USED TO BE! What are you NOW? That's the question? Kuddos to KISD for handling this matter and getting our schools, teachers, and students where they need to be. This person doesn't fit in this equation. PERIOD!

Again let me restate. I AM

Again let me restate. I AM MOVING TO EAST TEXAS TO BE CLOSER TO MY MOTHER WHO RECENTLY LOST HER HUSBAND OF 54 YEARS. I WAS OFFERED A JOB IN HOUSTON IN MY OLD SCHOOL DISTRICT AND ANOTHER DISTRICT. MY BOSSES PHONE NUMBER IS 281-221-0722 I INVITE ANYONE IN KILGORE TO CHECK MY REFERENCES, MY TAKS SCORES OF 100% IN EVERY SUBJECT EVERY YEAR I TAUGHT AND I WAS A TEACHER OF THE YEAR NOMINEE. YOU WISH I WAS UNSTABLE. I AM NOT ANYMORE UNSTABLE THAN ANY OTHER TEACHER WHO HAS PUT UP WITH THE NONSENSE WE PUT UP WITH. MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE I HAVE SEVENTEEN YEARS OF EXPERIECE AND WOULD COST YOU MORE. THANKS FOR YOUR REPLIES IT MAKES ME WANT TO PURSUE THIS EVEN FURTHER WHICH I WILL. I DID GROW UP. I GREW UP THERE. MY DAD GAVE THE SCHOOL SYSTEM THIRTY FOUR YEARS OF HIS LIFE.

I had this happen to me. I

I had this happen to me. I finally had to go to Corpus Christi to get a job. The ironic thing about that is the population is predominately hispanic. Oh well, hopefully whoever was hired can teach the students proper english. That is embarrasing for that city. That is why I chose to leave there many years ago.

It is a shame that the

It is a shame that the American public is having Spanish forced upon us, rather than have the immigrants (legal or otherwise) learn to speak English. We are the United States of America, NOT the United States of Mexico. Shame upon the Kilgore ISD for using such a flimsy, unethical reason to not hire someone. That smacks of discrimination. Every taxpayer in the KISD needs to let them know how badly this makes them look.

I agree. I am hispanic and I

I agree. I am hispanic and I learned english from an english speaking teacher. He did not speak spanish so I did not have a choice. I will always be grateful for that. I too left that city. It's like any other small town though. Dont want to upset the apple cart. Good luck Mrs. DeNike.
