City passes youth curfew ordinance

By J. LOUISE LARSON
But for a second, Kilgore’s new youth curfew was almost lost. Councilman Neil Barr’s motion to pass Ordinance No. 1459 enacting a curfew of 10:30 p.m. on weekdays and 12 a.m. weekends almost died on the table Tuesday. “I was hoping we’d talk about it,” Barr said as Mayor Ronnie Spradlin prepared to close the still-unseconded motion.

How about instead of the

How about instead of the parents picking up trash in the park you make the youth pick it up. Sorry, but I do not believe in making parents responsible for everything their kid does..Granite parents have a responsibility for their kids, but we all know sometimes parents do the best they can and kids are going to do what kids are going to do. No matter what! As far as the smoking ordinance, I think it is stupid..I believe the non-smokers can stand outside just as well as I can. I spend my money in Kilgore just as much as the non-smokers. They have the same choices as I do as to whether to go into a rest. and eat that allows smokers. Why is it that smokers always have to accomodate the non-smokers. Guarantee alot of non-smokers who complain are the same ones who don't mind being behind the wheel of a car drinking or having parties at their homes serving up beer and wine to their friends. Are they going to give up their booze? How many lives do they effect?

The main problem is kids have

The main problem is kids have no place to hang out.not only in kilgore but longview also.Of all the time coucil members have spent trying to deter lets spend some time to find a solution.we all know this is not a new problem.I know there are some very smart people in our community that could come up with some possible solutions.at times i have had up to 20 or 25 kids hang out at my home.and thats usually all it is about,to get together and hang out.the other problem is enforcement.code enforcement in kilgore is not being done unless forced into it.

bad call team now the kids

bad call team now the kids who want to "hang out" will just go to longview and lets hope we dont have any traffic accidents to and from how will you feel then?
