Reaction to court ruling sparks second public event on Day of Prayer

By J. LOUISE LARSON
Local prayer warriors are scrambling to be heard in number after a federal judge’s ruling declared the National Day of Prayer unconstitutional. Forever In God We Trust, a local conservative watchdog group, has added a second prayer watch to the traditional 12 noon ceremony at Sesquicentennial Park annually observed by the Kilgore Ministerial Alliance.

"in the beginning, daily

"in the beginning, daily prayers were heard (in the halls of government) and they were answered," Really? I'd like to see some documentation of those prayers being "answered". Most of this article just quotes people basically talking out their backsides, making all sorts of bogus claims about our Constitution, history, government, and how we're all going down the toilet if we don't scrape and bow to Jeebus. We'd be better off if people would apply religion in their own lives and keep it out of government. I don't want the government ordering me to pray. Be careful what you wish for. If the government can tell you to pray, it can tell you which "god" to pray to.

I would vouchsafe that prayer

I would vouchsafe that prayer goes WAY back before the founding of America... I'd be very surprised if the government bodies and military commanders involved in the 30 years war didn't intone that God was on their side before these "Christians" went off to kill each other over whether churches should have golden ornaments or not. Oh, sure, it was about more than that, but there's no denying that a whole lot of praying was going on, much of it sincere, and look where it got them (the Swedes and the Germans). Perfect example of what happens when governments and churches align.
