KHS BASEBALL, SOFTBALL
The Kilgore High School baseball team will try to shake off the dust of the Reich Builders Classic tournament in Hallsville and Marshall last weekend, and hope to get another win this week.

Well, obviously we have a

Well, obviously we have a disgruntled parent on here posting stuff about Donny trying to "get back" at him for the past. All I am going to say is everybody knows who you are and why you feel the way you do. I know more about Donny Heimer than anybody in Kilgore since I've been married to him for almost 30 years and I can tell you that he really does care about every one of those boys reguardless of how their parents act. His record speaks for itself as far as his coaching goes and he will love the game of baseball till the day he dies. I can tell you that if he didnt care about the boys he wouldnt come work in the tournaments and take off work early to come to their games since "his son" isnt playing anymore. As far as bringing Ryan into this with his grades, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you will somehow, someway, someday pay for that remark and I pray when that happens you remember what you posted on this page and you know that it is because of that remark you had to pay that price. You do reap what you sow and I can promise you it wont be fun when it comes back around to you. And you will pay for it at the expense of one of your children.

Paula, don't let this person

Paula, don't let this person bother you. I'm guessing he is no more than 16 years old.. judging by his attack on Ryan and his immature assessment of Donny. No adult would seriously attack a man and his teenage son the way he did on the Kilgore News Herald website and not even give his name. It's really pathetic if you think about it, and there was no factual information in his posts to even take seriously.

man i sure hope this is not

man i sure hope this is not chris gossage posting this trash on here!!!!

These posts are a sad waste

These posts are a sad waste of time and energy. There are more important things in life that we need to teach our kids, and we need to set a better example of responsible adulthood than these ridiculous posts show. Our kids are reading these - are you proud of yourselves for dragging them into this? Singling out kids for ridicule, trash talking the men and women who try to lead them and teach them, arguing like fishwives among yourselves - we could all spend our time better by supporting the players AND the coaches. We have a young team - most of them are sophomores and juniors. We can't win every game and dominate every season. Every bulldog has his day. As for the person who singled out our son - sounds like sour grapes to us. At least have the integrity to post your name with your comments. Better yet - how 'bout calling us personally to discuss this rather than making accusations anonymously? I'm sure you have our number - we probably sit right beside at the games. It's ok to have a strong opinion on things, but when you start singling out KIDS - that's cowardly.

It doesn't matter if people

It doesn't matter if people put their name on their comment or not. It's their opinion and if they want their privacy, it's their business. You people just want to know WHO has WHAT to say. It doesn't make their opinion more or less valuable. Sounds like you just want to confront the people you don't agree with. Grow up, everybody has a right to their opinion and their privacy.

Stop this nonsense!!!! Yes,

Stop this nonsense!!!! Yes, the Kilgore baseball teams have a great deal of talent, but it is not the coach's fault if that talent is wasted by lack of effort and careless playing errors. The boys have got to want to win, but maybe they aren't getting the parental and fan support they need to have a winning attitude. I have many years in education and one thing I have learned over the years is that most children have the same attitude as their parents. It is a learned behavior. If parents are complaining about "poor coaching" (especially when their son is not in the line up) then maybe the problem is not the coaching, but the attitudes being modeled by baseball parents. I disagree with the comment that everyone in town is talking about how bad the varsity baseball coach is because this is simply not true. I think Coach Blackstone is doing a great job! Everyone always wants to complain about the coach, but unless you have ever been a high school baseball coach then you do not have the right to complain. Do you want someone to publicly criticize you about your job??? I don't think so! Please take your negative comments about the baseball team and coaches and flush them down the toilet. We only want positive, supportive fans for our boys and coaches in Kilgore.

Good call. A year from no

Good call. A year from no one will remember who hit what or what errors were made during a game. But what the kids WILL remember is the attitude of the parents and coaches. These are the examples that leave a lasting impression, and if we're not in this to support and lead our children, what ARE we in it for?

Who really cares what Donnie

Who really cares what Donnie Heimer thinks about this team?? Does he have a son playing this year? No he doesn't!! He couldn't even keep his own son passing in high school or college. Yes that's right, his son failed out of college and failed several times in high school and was ineligible to play. Talk about letting your team down. Just when your team depends on a player, they fail and don't make the grades. I believe Kilgore has had that problem again this year with a varsity player. Why does Mr. Wanna be Heimer even go to the games? Why does he even care? Because, his own boys couldn't make it in baseball, so he's trying to hang on to these other players. He's pathetic. He pretends to be Mr. Nice guy, but all he does is try to coach from the stands. As far as coaching goes, I will take Coach Blackstone anyday of the week over Donnie Heimer.

Many people care what Donnie

Many people care what Donnie Heimer thinks because he knows baseball. Obviously you have some jealous rage built up and felt the need to vent at Mr. Heimer, who by the way, is a nice guy and cares about all the boys, as has been proven through his years of coaching. The attack on his sons ability to make grades is below the belt and you should be ashamed at yourself for making such comments.

A good coach talks to his

A good coach talks to his players and encourages them to be leaders and to support each other. He treats all players equally and is honest about where they stand on his team. Donny is a good coach and always has been. He does not speak highly of one player and poorly of another. He works the whole team together. That builds unity. This is exactly what Blackstone is lacking.

A coach can only do so much.

A coach can only do so much. The vast majority of the motivation and leadership has to come from within. I have spoken with a few of the players about their apparent lack of passion to win and exhorted them to step up and be a leader. I watched them beat possibly the best pitcher they will face this year... who has already signed with LSU. That tells me that they CAN do it... they just have to "believe" they can. District play hasn't started yet...They still have time to get in the zone and play baseball like I know they can! A spark here and a spark there makes a fire. GO BULLDOGS!!!

Thank you Donnie! You have

Thank you Donnie! You have always been a great fan to have in the stands, and have always supported our boys. Maybe others will follow your lead, put the past behind, and support this years varsity!

The former Little League

The former Little League Coach Donnie Heimer, is NOT a good, supportive fan. He is a loud mouth who tries to coach from the stands. I personally speak for myself as well as many other fans who are sick and tired of him. He doesn't even have a son playing here or anywhere else for that matter. I know for a Fact that not all the players want him there or respect him. He has been told on more than one occassion, by players, to shut up. One being, a former KHS baseball standout. He is pathetic, and needs to move on. Get a life Donnie, get your own life, and stop trying to live yours through these young players.........

YOU are trash!! and obviously

YOU are trash!! and obviously know nothing about the game of Baseball. I didnt know you had to have a son "playing" to go to a freaking game! The players shouldnt be worried about who's in the stands yelling they should be more concentrated on whats happening on the field as their record shows. I promise you Donny has a life but baseball is his passion and YOU or ANYONE else will never change that. My name had no business getting brought into this if your gonna talk the talk post your name and get over yourself!

This coming from someone who

This coming from someone who isn't man enough to post his name

Trying his best??? Good try.

Trying his best??? Good try. You can try to make excuses for his poor coaching, but there is none. His four year record speaks for itself.

Guys, this is terrible. As

Guys, this is terrible. As Penny Mendenhall said, you should at least have the guts to state your name. Also, as she said, at this age, these boys should be much more fired up about the game than they are. There have been comments by several of the players that nobody cares. In the tournament last weekend, they acted like they could care less and didn't want to be there. The other teams were fired up and supported their players and most of ours just sit back in the dugout and say and do nothing to cheer their teammates on. On more than one occassion in Tuesday nights game, Coach Garvin had to go over to the dugout and tell the players that he wanted to hear them. They would cheer for a minute and then quit. As high school boys - you simply cannot make them do this. They have to want to do this. If they have no desire - the coach cannot do anything about it. That is not just this year - that is in years past. For the past few years - there have only been a handful of players that acted like they truly wanted to win. You have to have a team that wants to win - not just a few players. If you do not want to support the coach - that is your business, but at least have guts enough to state your name. Thank you Coach Blackstone and Coach Garvin for trying your best.

There's a reason this team is

There's a reason this team is Not fired up. Maybe your son would like to take some of that responsibility too. While he was injured and sitting the bench, he was making fun of the errors and disrupting the coaches speeches by farting and laughing. Yes that's right, he was. You only know what a few select players want to tell you. You are not in the dugout and have all the facts. So while you are posting blame, take some for yourself.

Dear ANONYMOUS, Actually i

Dear ANONYMOUS, Actually i did take resposibility i tried my hardest to get the team fired up in fact there was me, austin honeycutt, and hayden trying to get the team getting fired up so i did take resposibility thank you. Also, making fun of the errors? How exactly do you even do that? And disrupting the coaches speaches? I have always been dedicated to baseball and everything a coach has to tell me so i wouldnt disrupt a coaches speech but nice try on that one. And you just said she wasn't in the dugout and didn't have all the facts haha way to he hypecritical because obviously neither are you. So the next time you want to talk about a certain player and single a certain player out that has done nothing to the team but try to help it and get better maybe you should catch up on your own facts. One more thing how about actually stating your name and quit being a coward its real easy to talk about people when noone knows who you are. Proudly, ROBERT MICHAEL POLAND

This will be my last post on

This will be my last post on the matter, but I would like to know what does everyone hope to accomplish by talking badly about the coach? It will not bring back the last 5 years and give those boys another chance. It will not give this year's Varsity team a leg up. All it will do is bring these boys down. We're not even into District play yet, and they are already listening to "anonymous" people say they can't do it? It reminds me of a saying, "beware of your thoughts, they become your words, then your actions, then your habits and eventually your destiny." I still stand by the fact that our boys (mine included) have to have their own motivation and drive. Let's not determine their destiny for the season by our words, leave it to them.

I also agree with the

I also agree with the comments made. The varsity baseball coach is not doing his job well. There has been plenty of talent come through Kilgore High School baseball that has just been ignored. This is unfair to the players, school and fans. This coach has always had his one or two favorite players and just ignored the rest. It is as you said unfair. This has been going on with him since his first year in Kilgore. If you are not going to coach, you need to step down. As for the one supporter, we are not discussing just this year. We are talking about five years under his reign.

First, I want to say that

First, I want to say that anyone who comes on a public forum and speaks so harshly should be willing to leave their name. Having said that, while I do not agree 100% of the time with the coach (I have never agreed 100% of the time with any of my kid's coaches, including my husband), I can say that Coach Blackstone has always been good to my son, and has given him his chances. He does have a young team, with all but 4 that he has not personally coached. Not pretending to know what his plan is, but I am assuming that he has been using these tournaments and pre-District games to try players out in different positions, and pitching them to see what they can do. I think it is a little unfair to judge this whole season on what he has done during pre-season. I also think its unfair to say that the only way these boys will advance to playoffs is if there is a coaching change. At this level, it's not all about the coaching. These boys have to have the drive and desire to play their best and win, the coach cannot put that in them. So now I will step off the high horse, and go cheer the boys on Friday!

That's right you need to get

That's right you need to get off your high horse. It has ALOT to do with coaching at EVERY level of baseball, otherwise there wouldn't be any need for batting, pitching, & fielding coaches at the college or Major League level. It rests on the coach when he leaves a pitcher in too long, when he plays mind games with the players and lowers their confidence, when he's not a pitching coach or a batting coach. You can tell when a school has a real coach that knows how to get the most out of his players, a coach that knows how to teach players to pitch, bat, and field. A coach that takes the time to scout other teams for upcoming games. A coach that is aggressive, a coach that discipline's when the players skip, fail, or are disrespectful. I have yet to see any of this from Kilgore in the last 4 yrs. Go ask every player if they have gone outside of these coaches and paid someone to teach them how to bat or pitch. I bet nearly half of them will tell you they have. And by the way, it doesn't make someone's opinion more or less valuable if the post their name. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, as you have so demonstrated. We are also entitled to our privacy, and to not be confronted by people like you, just because we don't agree. What other reason would you have for wanting to know the names of people you don't agree with.

I agree. Last year's team

I agree. Last year's team with 9 talented Seniors should have gone a long way, but did not due to poor coaching. This team is the result of 4 years under the current coach. They are talented kids struggling because they are trying to do it on their own.

It is very sad. While this is

It is very sad. While this is in deed a young team. They do have the talent. The baseball team's issue is poor coaching. As a baseball fan I have watched this group of boys play for years. If anyone expects these young men to advance to the playoffs, there needs to be a coaching change. I do not have a child playing as all of mine are grown, however when everyone in town is talking about it how bad the varsity coach is, then we must have issues.durkee business
