“Cheyenne just attacked a wagon train near Sheridan City!” word came to Major Sandy Forsyth after he left Fort Hayes on August 29, 1868. He led his men up the Arickaree fork of the Republican River in northeastern Colorado. Forsyth had his men draw their rations and quickly fell into pursuit.
