Local legislators got a campaign boost from a top gun in state politics Monday as Texas House Speaker Joe Straus made appearances with state Representatives Tommy Merritt and Chuck Hopson. Straus described the lawmakers as “good friends” to a group of area dignitaries gathered at Kilgore’s Synergy Park as part of a three-event day.
