EMMA NELL JOHNS

Services for Emma Nell Johns, 77, lifetime Kilgorite, will be ten a.m., Friday, February 12, 2010 at Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Doctor David Handley officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Cemetery. Mrs. Johns died at home Tuesday, February 9, 2010.

She was born to Luther and Nellie Weast, March 10, 1932 in Kilgore, Texas. Mrs. Johns was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church. She worked as a telephone operator for “The Southwestern States Telephone Company.” Emma Nell was later a bookkeeper for Harris Brothers, Halliburton and Laird Hospital.

Being with her family and friends was her passion. She loved the outdoors and sports. Not only did she enjoy watching football games, it wasn’t uncommon to find a group of the Kilgore College Ranger Football team over at the Johns’ house for meals. During the 60’s and 70’s Emma Nell could always be found doing something for the Kilgore Boys Baseball Association.

She is survived by her children, Danny and Marion Downing of Longview, Josie and Gary Atchley of Kilgore, Ralph and Terri Johns of Avinger and Leroy and Debbie Johns of Gladewater; twelve grandchildren Amy Ellis of Gladewater, Angie Shelton Gladewater, Michael Johns of Avinger, Jason Johns of Avinger, Travis Johns of Avinger, Chad Atchley of Tyler, Christa Mixon of Kilgore, Casey Jo Harris of Kilgore, Wes Downing of Kilgore, Aaron Downing of Dover A.F.B., Bryan Downing of Kilgore, Katie Chamberlain of Longview; seventeen great-grandchildren; as well as other loving family and friends.

Emma Nell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leroy “Teyne” Johns; two brothers, Luther and Billie Gene Weast; and a sister, Frances Grarrett.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Post Office box 1216, Kilgore, Texas 75663-1216.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday evening between six and seven thirty p.m.
