Merritt appointed to committee on federal legislation

State efforts to grapple with unfunded federal mandates have a new ally. Texas House Speaker Joe Straus announced recently that the new House Select Committee on Federal Legislation is expected to closely monitor significant pending federal legislation with emphasis on health care reform efforts. State Rep. Tommy Merritt (R-Longview) has been appointed to the committee.

I think that the most significance is that Speaker Joe Straus has recognized the importance of developing a team in various committees to work with the Texas congressional delegation and to relay to those individuals the probability of support federal legislation would receive in the Texas House of representatives.
