As 2009 drew to a close, several area officials reflected on the events that shaped the past year. Perhaps the city’s saddest news occurred early in 2009. Friends and family were left to mourn after two firefighters fell eight stories to their deaths during a training exercise on Jan. 25 at the college’s high rise dorm building.
