Piper nominee Harrison to speak at fall commencement
HARRISON
Longtime Kilgore College employee Richard Harrison will give the commencement address at fall graduation 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, in Dodson Auditorium on the Kilgore campus.
Harrison, dean of liberal and fine arts, is KC’s 2010 Minnie Stevens Piper Professor nominee and the recipient of the Hamilton F. and Kathryn G. Beeson Teaching Award.
With this nomination, Harrison will compete with candidates statewide for the recognition as one of 15 Texas Piper Professors.
Harrison also served as department chair of Communications and the Visual Arts and has taught English and speech at KC for 34 years.
Harrison came to KC in 1975 as an English instructor after obtaining a B.A. from Baylor University, a Master of Science and Master of Arts from East Texas State University, and a doctorate degree in the College Teaching of English from ETSU.
As a KC faculty member, he has taught Composition and Rhetoric, Composition and Literature, British Literature, American Literature and Public Speaking. His most recent accomplishments have been as a Web instructor, including a successful and innovative dual credit section.
Friday night’s procession will include a majority of 282 graduation applicants.
Students will receive Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Arts in Teaching and Associate of Applied Science degrees, as well as certificates.
