Kilgore’s Castles, CHS gets shot at Marshall

A Kilgore High School graduate will now get his shot at the Marshall Mavericks.

Phil Castles, the son of David and K Castles of Kilgore, is the head football coach and athletic director at Corsicana, whose Tigers were to face Marshall in the area round of the UIL’s Class 4A playoffs Friday night at Rose Stadium in Tyler.

Corsicana defeated West Mesquite, 32-21, last weekend. Marshall beat Kilgore in the bi-district round.

Castles, in his first season at CHS, has the Tigers in the playoffs for the first time since 2005. Castles is a 1986 KHS grad who went on to Midwestern State in Wichita Falls.

Castles was once an assistant at Corsicana (in 1988) under coach Tom Wilson, and his father David is originally from Corsicana. The younger Castles is a former head coach at Elysian Fields and Tyler Chapel Hill.
