LETTER TO THE EDITOR Dear Editor: I just wanted Brenda Brown to know how very much I appreciate the wonderful article she wrote honoring myself, my brother, Chief Warrant Officer Dumas, and all the other Vets and members of the public who came in remembrance of November 11th Veteran’s Day. I remember when I came back from my tour on March 25, 1969, and was told that we should be careful where we wore our uniforms in public. I remember telling the officer in charge that I was from Texas and Texans appreciate our returning Vietnam Vets and that I will wear my uniform proudly. Brenda, thank you so much for honoring me and my family and the other veterans in attendance. Your article will be laminated so that in the years to come my two sons will remember what my brother and I did in service to our country. Sincerely, Mike Earley Dean of Public Service Kilgore College +++ Dear Editor, Sometimes in the heat of the moment, we make decisions that have unintended consequences. I would like to see the News Herald print the new sidewalk ordinance (No. 1449) in its entirety. The ordinance currently does not seem to be available on the City’s website, as the most recent City Council minutes available are Feb. 10, 2009, and the link to the City Code is inoperable. I understand that the City does not want brand new equipment (or older equipment, for that matter) destroyed by unintended use. However, in banning all types of wheeled conveyances on “sidewalks and appurtenances” I am left wondering if perhaps the Council has inadvertently also banned moving dollies, hand trucks, and the like. If so, I would hate to be running a business in downtown Kilgore — with fines of “up to $500,” restocking inventory or loading a large purchase for a customer could become a costly endeavor! David Whitfield Kilgore, Texas Jeff Howell, city manager, states: “You bring up an interesting point, but it is not the intent to prohibit dollies, hand trucks etc. Since this section of the City Code deals with “Bicycles and Play Vehicles” then work type wheeled equipment would not be included. I don’t believe our police officers or judges would interpret it differently. Thanks also for pointing out the link to the City Code is inoperable, we’ll work on getting it fixed.”

Dear Mr Editor
The Genealogy/Local History Department of the Longview Public Library is applying to UNT for a digitizing grant. We need written permission to use any material from the Kilgore News Herald that we have in our repository. We must have the written permission to include with our application, which is due, no later than January 15th.
Thank you for your attention & rapid response to this matter.

At a time when we are all

At a time when we are all suppose to be thankful for the things that we have in our lives, a company that is located in your area, Dialog Wireline, has their employees thousands of miles away from their families in Pennsylvania with no idea of when they are going to be sent home. It is amazing what you over hear in resturaunts. I currently reside in Pennsylvania and I am appalled that a company would do this to their employees at this time of the year. On one occassion, one was asked why they didn't just go home and the response was that they wanted to make sure that they received their complete pay. What kind of company has their employees out of town on the holiday and then puts them at risk of not getting their pay? That is really crappy if you ask me. I just wanted to let you know what kind of company you have in your area. After searching on the internet I found that the Vice President is Tim Marsh and the Operation Manager is Harry Jones. One young man up here is even working when he should have been on vacation at his mother's house.
