Mavericks end Kilgore’s 2009 season
Advances to area round; Bulldogs look to future with young talent
      For the first half of Friday night’s Class 4A bi-district playoff here at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium, it looked like a classic Kilgore versus Marshall game. In the second half, though, an experienced, senior-laden group of Mavericks were able to capitalize on a few mistakes, and avenge last year’s playoff loss to the Ragin’ Red.

West Rusk blows out Rosebud-Lott, 42-6
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL / UIL CLASS 2A BI-DISTRICT PLAYOFFS
      Consider the West Rusk Raiders back on the winning track. The Raiders played the very first East Texas playoff game of the weekend on Thursday night in Cedar Hill, blowing by Rosebud- Lott, 42-6.

Carthage holds off Lady Bulldogs, 40-32, in season opener
HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
      The Kilgore High School girls basketball teams opened their 2009-10 season here on Tuesday night, but it was Carthage that left a little happier. Kilgore’s junior varsity team beat Carthage in the first game, but the varsity contest went to Carthage, a 40-32 final. Kilgore was to play at Marshall today, a 1 p.m. JV start, and varsity scheduled for 2 p.m.

KC ladies open with win; men lose at Weatherford
Both teams play today, men home
      It was a win to open the season — finally — for the Kilgore College Lady Rangers basketball team, and earlier in the week, the undefeated streak to open the season is over for the KC men, who dropped their first road game of the year on Wednesday night.

KHS JV wins 14-4A tournament
      Kilgore High School’s fall varsity tennis team won its fall district crown, and now the KHS junior varsity has just done the equivalent. The JV Bulldogs finished first in the District 14-4A tournament, with Jacksonville and Lindale coming in second and third, respectively.
