Xi Pi Mu names Lou Anne Morse as sweetheart

Hostesses for the evening were Lou Anne Morse, Ann Thrower and Vicki Clayton. The refreshment table was decorated with a Thanksgiving theme. Members enjoyed chicken salad, tuna salad, pimento cheese, bread, crackers, potato chips, a variety of fruit with dip, asparagus and goat cheese filo wraps and brownies.

President Sherry Lockman led the Opening Ritual. Alice Lowery reminded members the Exemplar will begin 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the First Baptist Church fellowship hall. The next City Council meeting is Monday, Nov. 30.

Gail Hargrave presented Pat Morchat, last year’s president, with the 2008-2009 Sorority Scrapbook filled with photos, articles and mementos from the past year.

Lora Black reported on last month’s social, “Texas Hold ’Em” game, which Art Morchat won. The November social will be at Jadean Roberts’ home at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12. Vicki Clayton reported the December social will be held at the Cherokee Club.

The next service project is “Saturday Bread” at the Episcopal Church on Saturday, Nov. 28. Peggy Bowne asked if the sorority members wished to donate money to the Kilgore Lions Club this year for a Christmas service project and they voted to do so.

Vicki Clayton read a list of members’ birthdays and anniversaries coming up in November. Gail Hargrave read the “Joys & Concerns.” Jan Brown read about “Legacy Membership” for the yardstick.

Doug Bowen, a trainer at the J Club in Longview, gave the evening’s program on the “Health Benefits of Strength Training.” His program was educational and he answered many questions from members.

The group voted for Lou Anne Morse as the chapter’s 2009-2010 Sweetheart.

Alice Lowery won the door prize for the evening.

The next meeting will be the Christmas gift exchange at Nanny Goat’s, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7. Hostesses will be Darlene Bingham, Cookie Gauntt and Debbie Mc- Cubbin.

Sherry Lockman announced the annual Taco Salad Luncheon at St. Paul Episcopal Church is on Friday, Dec. 4.

Members performed the Pledge Ritual for new member Ginger Callens. Secret Sister gifts were handed out and opened. Each showed her gift and thanked her secret sister. President Lockman adjourned the meeting by leading members in the Closing Ritual and Mizpah.
