Members of the Kilgore High School Class of ’59 held their 50th reunion Oct. 16-17 with 80 classmates attending. Reunion organizers Nancy Reid Brooks and Charlene Hellen Moore both agreed it was the best reunion ever.

The weekend started Friday night with hamburgers at The Back Porch Restaurant with an overflowing crowd. Most of the “girls” came in ’50s attire. A block of seats was reserved for alumni at the Kilgore/Henderson football game that night.

Classmates met Saturday morning at the Kilgore High School cafeteria for registration and brunch. Superintendent Jody Clements conducted a tour of the school. Clements is the son of classmate Sue Cox Clements.

Former teachers attending the gathering were Sue Martin Brown, Joyce Gatlin Odom and Lywane Davis Ousley.

A time of remembrance was held for the 32 deceased classmates. As each of their names was called, a red carnation was placed in a vase. Ronald Cale led classmates in singing the school song.

Saturday night, classmates met at Johnny and Sue Clements’ party barn for a meal catered by Bodacious Bar-BQ with desserts from McKay’s Ranch House. A special thanks to the emcee of the night, Jimmy Holmes. Carl Hurley, nationally recognized Kentucky comedian, did a superb job entertaining throughout the evening.

Special guests were Chance Choate, son of deceased classmate Pete Choate, and his family from Houston. Jan Hughey was unable to attend but made each classmate a touching CD of years gone by.

Thanks to Brooks and Moore for their continued dedication of making the KHS Class of ‘59 reunions such a big success.
