BASKETBALL

KHS girls open Tuesday; boys not until Nov. 19

The Kilgore High School basketball programs have started practice, and coach Davia Garrett’s Lady ’Dogs have even scrimmaged already.

Kilgore’s girls will scrimmage at Sabine on Saturday, a 10 a.m. start, and then officially open the season here against Carthage on Tuesday. That’s a 5 p.m. freshman game start, with junior varsity and varsity to follow. The Lady Bulldogs were hurt by graduation last year, but bring back quite a bit of talent this season. Kilgore also plays at Marshall next Friday, also beginning with freshmen at 5.

The KHS boys basketball program, now headed by coach Kerry Strong, has a while to get ready. The Bulldogs, who also bring back the bulk of their team that just missed the playoffs last year, will open Nov. 19 at home against Athens, then play at Longview on Nov. 24.

Camp scheduled for Nov. 14

There will be a basketball camp at Kilgore High School on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the gymnasium. The camp is for kids in grades 1 through 5, and lunch will be provided. Campers will also get a Tshirt. Registration is $25 per child.

For more information, call Sharon Massenburge at (903) 985-0180, or e-mail her at smassenburge@kisd.org. Also, call Lacy Toler at (903) 984-1280, or e-mail Lacy at ltoler@kisd.org.

The camp is sponsored by the basketball booster club.
