Pirtle UMC ‘thankful for heroes’ Pirtle United Methodist Church members and guests will honor America’s heroes with a special worship service and meal on Sunday, Nov. 15. “‘Heroes Sunday’ will allow the community to thank our men and women for their service, dedication and acts of heroism on behalf of our community and our nation,” said Dudley Plaisance Jr., Pirtle pastor. The 10:30 a.m. worship service will recognize “heroes in our midst who often silently go about performing their duties, often unnoticed,” he explained. “The meal to follow will allow us to express the appreciation of our community for their commitment to duty.” The pastor said U.S. soldiers have fought in every part of the world to keep people safe and free, and local heroes serve citizens by fighting crime, extinguishing fires and rescuing those in distress. “November is an appropriate time to think of giving thanks. When you think of all the things you are thankful for, think about the heroes that surround you. Then, also, think of all we have in this great nation to be thankful for because of those heroes. And then, thank God for our heroes,” Plaisance said. Pirtle UMC is located 3.5 miles south of Kilgore bypass road. Turn left (east) on CR 146 and travel one-half mile to church.
