MLMS buys books for Kilgore Crisis Center

By LESTER MURRAY news2@kilgorenewsherald.com

Maude Laird Middle School students held their pep rally on Thursday for their football game with Jacksonville, but the real action was on the gym floor.

MLMS students donated money during a recent school book fair and raised enough to ensure that one of their principals would get “creamed,” according to Diane Wimberly, librarian,

The “lucky” principal who drew the short straw, so to speak, was none other then Kenneth Clark, sixth grade assistant principal. Three students were selected by Clark to deliver savory cream pies to him during the pep rally,

It was the delivery method that brought cheers from the student body as each student, Cassie Littleton, Amanda Landeche and Morgan Presley, in turn stepped up to Clark and delivered a cream pie in the face.

Wimberly said Kilgore Crisis Center representatives Laura Lara and Kristy Prior were present at the pep rally and they accepted 65 books bought by students for the Crisis Center.

The Kilgore High School Hi-Steppers and the KHS drum line performed special numbers at the pep rally, as did MLMS cheerleaders, the MLMS band and twirlers, and a special slide show was also presented.
