KILGOROUND

BILL WOODALL BILL WOODALL CUSHING ACADEMY in Ashburnham, Massachusetts, is replacing its library books with a Kindle – a digital, electronic tablet to which librarians download books.

THE school has converted the library’s circulation desk to a coffee bar.

THE headmaster at the prep school says the move has replaced the library’s 20,000 books with millions of books.

HONESTLY some days it just seems the world is changing faster than I’m comfortable with.

IN OUR youth, or thereabouts, singer Melanie “rode (her) bicycle past your window last night.”

BASED on the evidence, if she lived here today she might have to find a new way to get to your window.

KPD Officer Angela Burch told the News Herald this week she has “numerous” bicycles in the property room. All of them were either lost by

someone who chose not to go looking for it, or stolen by someone and recovered by the law.

THE police department will donate them to the Kilgore Crisis Center shortly – unless you come by and claim yours.

IF you’ve mislaid your bike and think it might be amongst those in the city’s storage building, go by the police department. They’d like to see them go to their owners if possible.

EVERY city does at least one thing well. Okay, maybe not every city, but certainly most cities.

KILGORE does quite a number of things really well. One of those happened Friday, the other will happen next Thursday.

THE annual downtown trick-or-treat sugar-frenzy happened amidst the construction clutter Friday. And, again, it drew hundreds of kids and their parents. (Martha Fertitta of Main Street Flowers and Gifts was in charge.)

THURSDAY is our favorite event: The Oilman’s Chili Cook-Off takes control of Commerce Street on Thursday. That event benefits the Kilgore Crisis Center and the smoothness of its execution is a thing to behold. (Bob Davis of Bob Davis Sales will be in charge yet again.)
